Tech Museum of Innovation

San Jose, California

This new educational resource celebrates Silicon Valley and the changes its technology has brought to our society. Designed by Ricardo Legorretta to serve as a dramatic architectural landmark, it includes four galleries filled with hands-on exhibits, a 300-seat domed Imax theater, cafeteria and gift shop, and two large atrium lobbies suitable for public events. Each of the exhibit galleries features a different theme:

  • The Innovation Gallery tells the story of Silicon Valley's evolution.
  • The Explorations Gallery features exhibits on earth, sea, and space.
  • The Communications Gallery looks at the impacts of the information age.
  • The Life Tech Gallery explores human performance, medicine, and genetics.

Our design includes exposed ducts and piping to complement the interior architecture, an innovative smoke-control system to allow openness between the atrium spaces and the galleries, and a low-noise mechanical system for the Imax theater.
