PROJECTS
Central Park Library
Santa Clara, California
Guttmann & Blaevoet participated in an evaluation of the existing library building to help the city determine whether to renovate or replace the 30-year-old facility. The city chose replacement with a two-story building with below grade parking. The new library features separate pavilions for children and teens. Two large community rooms accommodate public programs and three small group study rooms serve collaborative study and the library’s adult literacy program. The new library is one of the most technologically advanced libraries in California, providing more than 100 public access computers. The mechanical system consists of an underfloor HVAC distribution system throughout both library levels. Our energy analysis resulted in a design that exceeds California’s 2001 energy standards by 11%, and an ASHRAE Regional Technology Award for innovation in sustainable design.
