Contra Costa County Ambulatory Care Center
Martinez, California
This new ambulatory care facility at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) is the third in a seven-phase modernization plan for the campus. The building is split into two wings to allow more natural light into the clinics. The wings are then oriented around garden courtyards to create a natural healing environment. Designed as glassed-in porches, waiting rooms and corridors overlook the courtyard gardens. On the ground floor, the Cancer Center features a private garden. To accommodate the diverse services the clinic offers, and to build in flexibility in usage, each clinic is laid out as a standard module. For energy-efficiency, our mechanical design includes condensing boilers. The building uses 35% less than California’s 1998 energy standard, and resulted in a $64,687 PG&E Saving By Design owner’s incentive.
