Impact of New 2005 Title 24 Energy Standards on Non-Residential Buildings

The October 2005 Non-Residential Energy Standards contain significant changes to the energy code related to overall building energy performance.  These changes include time dependent valuation of energy, mandatory requirements for fenestration labeling, inclusion of outdoor lighting and other changes. This seminar covers the new requirements as they pertain to energy compliance, with particular emphasis on the building envelope and how the envelope design impacts mechanical systems.  The advantages for architects of the performance method vs. the prescriptive method of complying with the energy code are described.  PG&E’s Savings By Design program is also reviewed, along with case studies of projects that have successfully qualified for owner and design team incentive dollars.
