Improving the Energy IQ of Libraries

The special design criteria for libraries pose a challenge for successful sustainable design strategies.  This presentation shows how small investments in green design can yield big returns.  From a “whole building” perspective, the energy impacts of various building envelope strategies, mechanical system selections, and lighting design are shown.  The benefits of newer technologies, including underfloor air distribution, ground source heat pump systems, natural and mixed-mode ventilation, and other technologies are introduced.   Case studies illustrating successful implementation strategies are included.
